Take the Nude Cruise
Hop aboard a large catamaran at the marina on Maroma Beach, and head out with sails unfurled for a pristine snorkeling spot where the reef teems with fish. Enjoy a tropical lunch and stop at a nude beach accessibly only by boat. This all-day journey departs every Wednesday and is exclusively for Hidden Beach guests.
Explore Mayan temples at Tulum
Tulum is an impressive temple fortress on the edge of a 40-foot seaside cliff that was abandoned after the Spanish Conquest in the 1500s. Take in the Temple of Frescoes, the Castillo and more, and then go for a swim in the ocean at the base of the cliffs.
Make a splash in an eco-park
Access nature at numerous eco-parks. At Xcaret, float through underground caverns, snorkel in lagoons, swim with manatees and visit the sea turtle nursery. Xel-ha, Tres Rios, Aktun Chen, Kantun-Chi and Dos Ojos offer swimming in cenotes (natural sinkholes or caverns), kayaking, snorkeling and hiking. Nizuc Park hosts a variety of water-based attractions.
Seek some adrenalin thrills
There are plenty of adventure options on the Yucatan. Ride ATVs through jungle paths, race speedboats through the mangroves, ride horses along the beach or take a jeep tour. Try ziplining far above the forest floor or rappelling into a cenote. Land a marlin while sports fishing or give scuba diving a try.
Swim with dolphins
Hold on to the dolphin’s dorsal fin and go for the ride of your life. Let the dolphin give you a kiss and push you through the water by your feet. Available at Xel-ha, Xcaret, Nizuc Park, Puerto Aventuras, Isla Mujeres and La Isla Shopping Mall.
Golf on championship courses
Among the championship courses on the Riviera Maya, the most notable is El Camaleón, the Greg Norman-designed course at Mayakobá that hosted Mexico’s first-ever PGA Tour event. Another popular course is Playacar Golf Resort designed by Robert Von Hagge. P.B. Dye, Jack Nicklaus and Robert Trent Jones, Jr. have also designed courses here.
Climb the Mayan pyramid at Coba
Coba, a vast city in the jungle occupied between 800 and 1100 AD, features stepped pyramids, temples, ball courts and uncovered ruins. Climb the steps up 138-foot tall Nohoch Mul, the highest pyramid on the Northern Yucatan, for a spectacular view.
See a cultural performance at night
Catch the outstanding night folkloric show at Xcaret, featuring over 100 performers in a dramatic and colorful review of Mexican history, music and dance. The Caribbean Ballet has 80 dancers showcasing music and dance across the region. Caribbean Carnival has a lively vibe too.
Take in a bullfight
The Wednesday afternoon bullfights in Cancun include all the drama of bull versus matador, plus a folkloric dance exhibition and a performance by the charros or cowboys.
